time will tell...

why is it that the day "before" something (christmas eve, the day before your wedding, etc) either flies by or moves at a snail's pace?  the anticipation of a big day's arrival sometimes carries with it an equally heavy feeling as the day itself.  regardless of how you feel, all that is left between you and the following day is time.  and, well, time simply has to pass in order for us to get from where we are to where we want to be.

i kind of find myself in that trapped feeling today.  tomorrow will be our 36-week appointment (our actual 36-week date is this thursday, september 2nd).  if you had asked me 2 weeks ago, i would have told you the odds of ben and i getting here "sans babies" would be slim to none. when we went into our 34-week appointment and found out i was well on my way to having the twins sooner than later, we had everything packed and ready to go within hours following the news!  however, these little ones have set up shop like little elves and haven't wanted to hop on santa's sled and ride on out quite yet.

regardless of what we find out tomorrow, it's exciting to have a better idea as to when we are going to actually meet our son and daughter.  i'm 50/50 on this one.  i think they might come super-soon.  on the flip side of the coin, i also think they might hold out until week 37.  my doctor said that hurdle is the furthest he'd let me go for a couple of reasons.  while some doctors escort multiples out by week 38, mine feels that for me 37 weeks would be a huge way to finish our pregnancy journey and that our babies would be ready for the world.  ( i did NOT say i'd be ready).

we know we're incredibly thankful to have made it this far.  we know we have an appointment at 10 a.m. to see our little ones for at least one last time on the ultrasound monitor.  we know that these babies are coming in 9 days or less. i guess knowing those few things will have to do for now.  only time will tell us the rest of the story...

  1. wow 9 days and counting...that is very exciting! I can't believe that your babies are going to be here so soon. I totally understand the not ready feeling as I am starting to think the same thing. My doctor said today as soon as you go into labor you are an instant mom and will do wonderful!
