minnie & tully celebrated their 1-week birthday today. the wonderful pediatrician's appointment was the icing on today's birthday cake. tully has surpassed his birth weight already (he's now 4 pounds and 15 ounces). minnie came in right at 5 pounds (only 2 ounces shy of hers). their health report was great, and we simply put the twins in the car and kept smiling big and proud like we have all week. they make our hearts melt and make us hold our heads high...and they have only been with us 7 days.
but my, my, my...what a difference 7 simple days can make! when i think back to the events of this past week, it is truly soooooo hard to know where and how to begin.
as i write this entry, a week ago ben and i were holding our son and daughter for the first time. i literally remember every single thing about last wednesday night. the....best....night....ever.
i remember having our "countdown" to delivery and visiting with mom, dad, jessica, beth, and my in-laws. i remember the c-section and almost everything that was said. i remember feeling the intense nausea & shakes that took over once the babies were out, and daddy had taken them upstairs. i remember waiting for the well-baby nursery to call down and announce minnie & tully's weights. i remember seeing them being wheeled into my recovery room and just being in shock that "i did that". i remember thinking "it's over...the pregnancy, it's over".
while i cried on and off throughout the thursday and friday following their delivery, the tears were never ever tears of fear or anxiety over having these babies out. the tears were representative of overwhelming joy. these babies were miraculously brought into this world and how i simply don't know. i am a christian person. i know god is a miracle worker. but....to call these twins "miracles" just isn't enough. i feel that the word "miracle" doesn't do them justice.
ben and i are so excited each morning when we wake up and realize that for the 7th day in a row, we're parents. i always heard about the love you have once you have a child. i just never could have imagined, though, what that meant.
Like Christmas everyday!
