cinco de babies...

baby "b" on the left is our little boy & his sister, baby "a" is on the right....a precious pair made up of 1 boy & 1 girl for us!
our little boy finally did a profile shot for mommy & daddy
our baby girl gave us a "thumbs up" when we found her!

we are thrilled to say that we'll be welcoming a bouncing boy and a gorgeous little girl into our family late this summer and are beyond excited. well, i say "excited" but must admit i am truly, truly shocked. i was sure that 2 rambunctious boys were having it out with one another in my belly, and i was 100% wrong. ben had said one of each; HOWEVER, he woke up this morning saying he was 100% sure we were having 2 girls. so.......mommy and daddy are not as smart as they thought! our precious kiddos are already teaming up and outsmarting us. i believe that is a sign of things to come, don't you? those that voted for one of each...i am very impressed. you knew our twins better than we did!

our anniversary (which is today) started off as any typical day often does for us. i hopped out of bed and went through my normal routine of watching the news, eating breakfast, and slowly but surely getting ready for a day at school. ben, as always, rolled out of bed with 15 minutes to spare and was out the door in no time at all. somehow, 12:45 rolled around rather quickly which was a relief to both of us!

15 minutes passed...30 minutes passed...then onto 45 minutes. yes, our tech was nowhere to be found. i was pacing and ben was sweating up a storm. i had consumed a mini dr. pepper on the way to make them dance about which didn't help the antsy feeling either. finally, we were taken back around 1:30.

by approximately 1:32, the jelly was on the belly and it was go-time. after praying to god for the 20th time today, i began hearing the clickity clack of the ultrasound buttons taking measurements and then....."well, baby a is a girl" was heard. i looked at the u/s lady like she had 3 heads....and then started to cry. i asked her not to tell anyone because i pride myself on not crying in public. i looked to my sweet, adoring hubby for some support....some comfort....a tissue perhaps.....and do you know what i got. "you were wrong, maggie". ahhhh.....the most loving response ever.

baby a is low, low, low. her feet are literally doing the moonwalk or clogging or something against my bladder. now that they have gotten this big, baby a will always be the lower one. she is measuring 19 weeks & 5 days (almost a week ahead) which put her in the 96th percentile. she weighs approximately 11 ounces already. it is still very early in the pregnancy ball game weight-wise; however, we were both so excited for all of this news because early growth with twins is imperative. baby a had the high heart rate (174 bpm) early so for those that choose to believe that heart rates can be good indicators of a baby's gender, you might just have a point. baby a was also the "cooperative" one in the ultrasounds, always posing and performing quite properly.

moving on....about 30 minutes later, she moved onto baby b. well, well, well.....as always this little friend just wasn't going to reveal itself with ease. finally, after some jiggling and prodding, we finally SAW what we were having. i was almost embarrassed. "it has a wee-wee" is what was said immediately once that little man showed his business....and he kept showing his business the whole time. well, that's when i truly lost it. i love our 4 nephews...and now i have a mama's boy of my own!

baby b is high, high, high. i was told that is why i am already feeling "full" a bit earlier than most do because he is rammed up close to my sternum. that could get super-uncomfy later. for now, i'll just enjoy the fact he's not dancing upon my bladder with his sister. he is measuring 19 weeks & 3 days which put him in the 69th percentile. for them to be measuring that close is wonderful news as well! our little man measured around 10 ounces so he's a bit smaller than his sister. i'm sure that will go over really well if those stats stick in the years to come!

overall, both babies received wonderful reports. little feet, hands, all organs, and all bones were spotted and accounted for during our lengthy ultrasound. we couldn't have asked for a better day, a better gift, a better way to spend our anniversary. we got to share our wonderful day remembering our marriage & beginning a new chapter in our love story with our little boy and our little girl.
