i ... am..... over..... it....

if you are a new-englander, go ahead and get ready to laugh.  if you are from anywhere south of the mason-dixon line, you will totally understand where i am coming from.

snow.  doesn't the initial impression of the word just make you light up?  when i first think of the term, i immediately think of hot chocolate, white fluff, and happiness bouncing around a little town covered up in mother nature's white blanket.  this vision, however, is a monet.  from far away, all looks and sounds perfect but up close and personal it's a downright mess.

nashville and the surrounding areas have been on snow-watch for a good month.  while kiddos are happy to be out from prison (aka school), mommies have been locked up tight with their flesh and blood for too, too long.  obviously, this is my first experience with snow plus babies.  let me tell you, it is for the birds.

minnie & tully have almost forgotten what the town of murfreesboro looks like because they have been holed up inside their residence since christmas.  while mickey mouse's clubhouse, bouncy seats, and nap nannies all exist inside, i feel bad that they have been "stuck" seeing and doing the same things over and over.  it's like the repeat button keeps getting hit over and over again.

on top of the repetition of day-to-day living here, the whole sleep training debacle is going strong.  while i know some of you are over it, it made me feel so good to see/hear the multiple "amen" responses to the sleep training post.  i actually decided to blog at this moment to try to distract myself from tully's poor pitiful cries.

so.....to update you on our progress, i feel as though breaking it down will help me hit the highs and lows more accurately....

  • night time sleep
    • minnie is fabulous.  girlfriend went down at 7:30 and didn't wake up untili 6:45 this morning.  not....a....peep
    • tully had a rough time going down because he "blew it out" from here to kingdom come about 10 minutes or so into it once he was put in his crib.  by the time he was wiped down, changed (yes, even his sleep sack suffered the blow), etc......he then cried for awhile getting back into the land of nod.  he had decided to store his #2 in his little body for over 2 days so he knocked it out of the park, ya'll.  he awoke at 11:45 pm and again at 5:30 am.  we gave in and popped a paci in about 20 minutes into his crying which is a HUGE no-no.  our goal of tonight is to hunker down and stick to our cry it out goal.
  • morning nap
    • minnie, again, has this one down pat.  she goes down an hour and half after her morning nursing time and stays down until it's time to get up
    • tully goes down easily; however, after the 45-minute monster creeps in he is ready to get up
  • afternoon nap
    • minnie goes down great as always.  she has a 50-50 shot at staying down.  sometimes, she stays down for 1 1/2-2 hours and other times she gets woken up by tully's girly screams
    • tully, well, is not a good pm napper.  he is the screaming one at the moment.  he went down today for 30 minutes and has been crying for 27 minutes.  awful.  i hate it.  i want to be frustrated with him and want to cry myself at the same time.
so....there you have it.  i wish i was a solid gold success story but i must be honest we are not there yet.  i have consumed boxes of raisinets and frozen yogurt throughout the past week in efforts to distract me from my misery.  that has not worked AND i feel guilty afterwards:(

  1. Are they in the same room, Maggie? I always wondered how you would sleep train with twins.

  2. I live in NC. Just the THOUGHT of snow sends me in a tizzy! And being snowed in with children...is akin to no coffee in the mornings or no diet coke in the afternoons...or worse. I feel your pain and it hurts.
