i try to be lighthearted and carry a sarcastic wit when asked "how IS it...how is life with twins?" i don't want to be a downer. i don't want to sound ungrateful. i don't want to seem like a grumpy mommy. all of that aside, i do want to be honest. it is h-a-r-d.
i have said to each of my close girlfriends that going from zero kiddos to any number (be it 1 or 2 or 3), is something no one can aptly prepare you for. i always knew that but living the life of a new mommy is like an unexplainable journey that no piece of knowledge or tool can make it work flawlessly for you. i am a big believer that raising children is imperfectly perfect. no one does it the same. no mommy personality is identical to the next. no little one is a mirror image of his or her dearest friend. you just have to buckle yourself and your little ones up and ride off into the sunset...handling the bumpy road along the way as best you can.
the main thing that being a mommy has made me realize is that you can plan, plan, plan out the yin-yang BUT you have to be ready to make on the fly decisions and live in the unpredictable moments that your babies create. though my days look extremely similar on the surface, each day brings about different decisions, different moods, different twins for that matter......and you MUST adjust.
being a mommy of multiples requires routine....times 2! so going from a rigid routine to pulling decisions out of my rear end at a second's notice has been a difficult extreme for me to deal with. some girls can roll with the punches super-well. i am NOT one of those ladies. some girls are sticklers and say "no matter what, my day will look the exact same 7 days a week". i am not one of those either. i find my personality in the middle....and that middle ground can sometimes make life shaky.
i came across a verse yesterday that i swear to ya'll was written for mommies of multiples. maybe i should say it was written for mommies in general....
"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light."
let me tell you. i like the following words: rest, gentle, easy, and light. those words just warm my soul just skimming across them. as a mommy, those words resonate with me. that's what i want for MY own minnie and tully just as christ wants that for us, his children. i am so thankful he was there in the beginning...that he is here for me now....and that he will forever be there to comfort me in the future. that way, i can live in the moment knowing i am never doing so alone.
Agreed. I probably lean more towards a routine, but a couple days a week my mental health needs a break from the monotony of daily life and we have to change things up. I have a 3 year old on top of the 14 month old twins and I always tell people that going from zero to one child was harder than going from 1 to 3. You are right that nothing can prepare you for it.
